  • How are things going with you? - 2 March 2009

    Romans 8:28 says that

for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

So everything – absolutely everything – that happens to believers (people ‘who love God’) is for their good. Period. no exceptions. Cast iron, divine guarantee.

Trouble is, of course, this is not always easy to believe. Because sometimes – no, often – bad things happen.

True – some things are bad in themselves. But from God’s point of view, in the big picture, taking into account the direction in which everything is heading, everything that happens to every believer is always the best thing for them.

God uses even the most painful situations we may face in life – the most traumatic suffering, the most heartbreaking disappointment – for our good.

Question is, how? Well, for starters, take a look at James 1:2-4:

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

So how are things going with you?

Think hard. Swallow hard. Cry a bit. Pray a bit.

    Just fine, thanks.
