Hebrews 7:11-19 - 9 August 2009 |

11 If therefore perfection through the levitical priesthood were possible (for the people on the basis of it were given the law) what further need according to the order of Melchizedek another priest to arise, and not after the order of Aaron to be called? 12 For the priesthood being changed, necessarily of [the] law a change comes. 13 For the one of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, from which no one served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that from Judah our Lord has arisen, in regard to which concerning priests Moses said nothing. 15 And more evident still it is, if according to the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest, 16 who not according to a law of a commandment of [the] flesh has become [a priest], but according to the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed that ‘You are a priest for ever according to the order of Melchizedek.’ 18 For on the one hand nullification of the foregoing (?) commandment comes about because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law perfected nothing), but on the other hand a better hope is brought in, through which we draw near to God.
