Reflecting on the 40 years of rest under the governorship of Gideon in Judges 8, Matthew Henry remarks that “providence so order[ed] it to bring in mind the forty years of their wandering in the wilderness.”
That’s not the sort of thing that gets top marks in some contemporary hermeneutics exams. But it should.
