Preached history - 7 January 2011 |

Insightful comments on the theological character of Old Testament narrative from this sermon on 1 Kings 1 by Robert Rayburn, Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church.
“The authors of these biblical books are intending to teach us our faith, to show us the will and the work and the nature of God, to reveal his character to us, to teach us to trust him, to instruct us in the way we ought to live as the children of God. This is, we might say, preached history, or prophetic history – history meant to sanctify the people of God. Rarely is the lesson … explicitly explained. It is more often shown than said, and the author will very often make his points subtly, though no less powerfully for that.”
