A friend (HT: CG) has alerted me to the fact that Philip Schaff’s 8-volume History of the Christian Church is available free online at OpenLibrary. If you have a Kindle, you can get it send straight to you, completely free. The eight volumes (note that vol 5 is split into two parts) aren’t labelled explicitly, but if you click (or just hover) on the “read online” link you can easily see which is which.
As ever, the best stuff is old stuff.
