Don’t fight his battles for him - 5 June 2011 |
|
My wife Nicole made some notes during Nancy Wilson’s seminar at the recent Emmanuel Family Conference. Here are some of the things she wrote on the subject of Mothers Raising Boys:
- Enforce what you want to enforce, but don’t issue a barrage of commands.
- Don’t tell others too much about your son’s behaviour; it will undermine trust between you and him.
- Don’t tease your son publicly; teasing will tear him down.
- Don’t fight his battles for him. He needs to learn to fight for himself. Give him the tools with which to do it, but don’t solve his problem for him.
- Don’t be over sentimental or mollycoddle him. You want him to grow to be a man
- Teach him to be mentally and physically tough.
- He will probably struggle with self control – be prepared.
- Give him manly responsibilities – not just loading the dishwasher. You want him to grow into manhood.
- Aim high. Expect greatness. Be expectant of what the Lord might do with him.
