Once again, a side-comment in James B. Jordan’s commentary on Judges opens up an intriguing web of biblical connections and a rich cluster of practical applications.
“Laish was indeed part of the land Israel was supposed to conquer, Joshua 13:1-7, but it was not part of Dan’s allotted territory” (p. 286).
Now you just need to ask yourself a few questions: Why, if Laish was not in their allotted territory, did Dan fix their gaze upon it? What happened to their own territorial allotment? What kind of men would do such a thing? What kinds of motives and thoughts would lead us in the same direction?
