At some point when I’m baptising an infant, I say something like this:
“Though ___ understands very little of what is going on today, we pray that (s)he will become increasingly conscious of God’s love for him/her in Christ, and that God would equip him/her day by day to remain faithful as a servant of Christ.”
Obviously, the same could be said when baptising an adult.
