Doug Jones makes some astonishingly insightful observations in “The Font of Laughter” (Angels in the Architecture, Jones and Wilson).
For example, against the commonplace assumption that the doctrine of total depravity is liable to produce gloom and despair, Jones points out, “A man who has been saved from death will not be made gloomy by realizing how great the danger was” (p. 74).
