For all Luke’s focus on the Gospel for the Gentiles, that Zechariah and Elizabeth’s faithfulness to the OT Law of Israel is held up as a good thing (1:6), just like the faithful hope and expectation of Simeon and Anna and all who were waiting for the consolation of Israel (2:25, 38). This is to be expected, of course, since blessing comes to the Gentiles precisely through the fulfillment of God’s promises to his people Israel.
