Calvin on the radio - 19 June 2009
Well, not quite. For obvious reasons, it wasn’t possible to get hold of the great man in person.
Nonetheless, BBC Radio 4’s Beyond Belief has devoted a whole episode to John Calvin, to mark the 500th anniversary of his birth. For one reason and another they asked me to take part.
If I remember rightly, there were some entertaining moments – not surprisingly, since the other contributors were a Roman Catholic (John Haldane, St Andrews University) and a Methodist (Tom Greggs, Chester University). Light the blue touchpaper…
Anyway, it’s going out on Radio 4 at 4.30 pm on Monday 22 June. Listen online here.
Free will - 11 May 2009
Last year I somehow got invited to take part in a BBC Radio 4 discussion on the subject of free will with Susan Blackmore (writer and expert on human consciousness) and John Bowker (author of The Sacred Neuron). As I remember it turned into a good old-fashioned ding-dong at a couple of points. It’s still online here if anyone wants to listen again – scroll down to ‘04 Aug – Free will’ and hit ‘go’ (you’ll need Realplayer).
